Bratislava, or The City With Klima!

After two glorious days in Vienna, we took a ferry on the Danube to Bratislava. The scenery was beautiful and we could see the castle as we pulled up to the dock. We attempted to walk to our hotel, but it was too damn hot. And uphill. The best money we paid all trip was the cab to our hotel, which was blessed with a working air conditioner. I have never been so happy to feel an arctic chill.

After walking up to the castle, which was a little disappointing, we strolled around the pedestrian area. Like all good cities, Bratislava was dotted with outdoor cafes, massive churches, intricate alleyways, and people dashing to and fro. It was literally over a hundred degrees, and after a few hours all I wanted to do was return to the hotel, shower, and take a nap in the air conditioning.

You could definitely tell that Bratislava is still working its way back from a period of disrepair. Aside from the city center, it has a more working-class feel to it.

We got a recommendation for a dinner restaurant from a cool kid at our lunch cafe, and he was spot on. LemonTree is a new restaurant located next to the US Embassy. We ate on the ground floor but our waiter managed to grab us some space at the top floor bar after dinner. It was definitely a place to Be Seen, and the people watching was great. The bartenders were phenomenal to watch, too- like dancers in a highly choreographed piece. And the view...spectacular!
